The fifth phase of an environmental management system (EMS) is management review. During this phase, the following should be considered:
- Top Management shall review, at intervals that it determines, the EMS for adequacy and effectiveness.
- Adequacy = are the objectives & targets being met?
- Effectiveness = are there nonconformances? If so, have they been addressed?
- Management review addresses all possible changes needed to the EMS in light of audit results, changing circumstances and commitment to continual improvement.
