August Mack Environmental's Michigan office is located in Livonia, Michigan. From this office we travel all over the state working on various EH&S projects. And traveling all over for one of our employees is just not work-related travel (following a child's sports team). Dawn Rochowiak has worked out of our Livonia office for a number of years and recently her son's hockey team won the playoffs!  Dawn's son scored two goals, one of them being the winning goal. August Mack congratulates Dawn's...

Material Safety Data Sheets

Friday, October 7, 2011 by August Mack Employees

There have been few regulatory items that have caused more frustration than a facility managing their MSDSs. The monthly, weekly, and daily commitments that it takes to properly acquire, distribute, and maintain MSDSs has grown over the years. The problem is compounded because multiple regulatory agencies (EPA & OSHA) rely on data that is (or is supposed to be) found on the MSDS. For detailed information on our MSDS management program, contact Kyle Forsythe in our Dublin, Ohio office at 614.798.99...

Environmental Compliance Consultant Intern Learns First Hand About Air Permitting

Wednesday, August 17, 2011 by August Mack Employees

During my internship, I shadowed one of the senior managers and a project manager on a Title V permit renewal. We had a two-hour meeting with our client to review potential changes in the operation of the plant potentially resulting in modifications in the existing air permit. After the meeting, we toured the facility and our client briefed me on the processes and operations of the plant. It was an awesome experience for me to be able to sit in for the day and learn from the best.

Environmental Compliance Service Intern Helps Manage Compliance Assistance Program

Monday, August 15, 2011 by August Mack Employees
Last week I have been updating the compliance assistance program (eCAP®) website for our clients. The website maintains the client’s documents for each module they have in their eCAP® program. I cleaned up individual client webpages by stacking old documents and organizing the newer documents. This way our clients have easy access to their compliance documents without having to mess with organizing them on their own.

Bridget is an intern from Indiana University at August Mack for the summer. She...

Environmental Due Diligence Intern at August Mack Talks About His Duties

Friday, August 12, 2011 by August Mack Employees

I have been spending my summer working in the transaction department mostly assisting with and participating in Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs). I recently assisted in historical research for a report on a property in downtown Indianapolis. My research included putting together and reviewing historical Sanborn fire insurance maps, and historic city directories for the property as well as surrounding properties at the state library. I was specifically looking for historical...

Environmental Analysis and Remediation - Why the tedious work is important

Friday, August 12, 2011 by August Mack Employees

Intern Tyler Hill's work has included entering new data in existing tables while also updating previous information. The data tables are of soil and groundwater sampling constituent concentrations. As further remedial investigations are done, new data becomes available which needs to be entered into our existing tables in order to be compared with previous data. This task is often meticulous and tedious, but it is important that the updates are done correctly.

Tyler Hill shares his perspective of...

August Mack from an Investigation/Remediation/Closure Intern Point of View

Thursday, August 11, 2011 by August Mack Employees

I have certainly been enjoying my time here at August Mack. I have been able to get out in the field to participate in groundwater and soil sampling. While in the office, I have created cross-sections of wells, maps and handled some administrative work. There has definitely been much to learn. Recently I was groundwater sampling with a field scientist at a large client site. With temperatures exceeding 100 degrees, it was nice we were able to drive to all the wells and stay in the truck while...

August Mack's Environmental Compliance Intern Point of View

Wednesday, August 10, 2011 by August Mack Employees
Earlier in the summer I shadowed a project manager at one of August Mack’s clients for their monthly storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) and spill prevention control and countermeasure (SPCC) inspections. The facility we were inspecting is a job shop iron foundry that produces many different types of castings. I was able to walk through the facility during production hours and follow the project manager as she went through the routine inspection. This was a great opportunity for me to...

Transaction Intern Reveals Why Phase 1 Site Assessments are Important

Tuesday, August 9, 2011 by August Mack Employees
Recently, I participated in a site inspection on 102-acres of  vacant, agricultural  land for a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment. Because the land was historically agricultural, I was looking for signs of illegal dumping of hazardous waste, evidence of historical homes or buildings on the site, stressed vegetation or any other issues of environmental concern. I have learned with every site inspection it is important to be thorough  and inspect every part of the property because you never...
