The EPA provides certain incentives to companies for voluntarily reporting environmental violations of their company. There are nine conditions that a company must meet (with some exceptions) in order to qualify for the incentives. These conditions include that the violation must be voluntarily discovered by the company, the company must promptly disclose the violation to the EPA in writing, and it cannot be a repeat violation of the company. If all critera are met, the company can qualify for significant penalty reductions, they will not be criminally prosecuted, and they will not be required to have routine audit reports.
