Fall Injury Statistics - Same Level Falls are on the Rise!

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), more than one million people are injured each year from a slip, trip or fall. A majority of injuries occur to the foot, ankle, leg and back.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (2008), the following is comparison data from private industry about different level and same level falls involving days away from work:
 
  • 67,510 falls to a lower level versus 157,680 same level falls (cases)
  • Equaling 6.3 percent of total lower level injuries compared to same level falls at 14.6 percent
  • Median days away from work: 15 days for different level falls versus 10 days from same level falls. The severity of different level falls is presumed greater, but there are more same level falls.
