Hospitals used to be one of the biggest contributors to mercury in
the environment. Some hospital equipment contained mercury as a
component. So how do you minimize mercury from hospitals? Eliminate
it at the source and that's what hospitals and equipment suppliers
have been doing. Case in point, you don't see any of the old
mercury thermometers being used at the hospital anymore. When
looking for ways to minimize waste, always try to look at the
source and see if you can engineer a potential...

Last week I took my lunch break and
sat in a downtown park. It was a beautiful day but I noticed
something different as I look at the activities around the park.
The park was surrounded by city streets and I'd been coming here
over lunch during the past several years since our office had
relocated from the suburbs to the downtown area. I usually came
when it was great weather and ate my lunch. What was different? I
noticed a dramatic increase in the bike traffic along the city
streets versus the...

Since my bike accident, my travels
have been vastly curtailed but with the healing process well along
the way, I will be taking to the road again in October. I look
forward to meeting with our many clients that I have not personally
seen over the past several months. It will be good to be back out
on the road.
Call me (Tom Anderson) at

Are you about to embark on a
renovation project at your facility? Or are you modifying a work
area that will require construction activities? Have you evaluated
whether asbestos is an issue of concern? Not
sure...... call me at 317.916.3105.
In the workplace, personal
protective equipment (PPE) needs to be utilized when necessary.
Have you evaluated your workplace and jobs for the hazards that may
require the usage of PPE? And don't overlook the proper equipment
when you are doing things in your personal life. If you are riding
a bike, wear a helmet! I am speaking from personal experience.
Without a helmet, my life would have been forever changed this
summer when I experienced a bad crash on a bicycle. Although
I ended up with a...

Several of my clients have left
messages asking how I was doing (as I recover from my
bicycle accident). First of all, thank you for your concerns and
I am doing great. The recovery process is now in its 8th week
and all the pain from the broken collarbone and hip are gone.
I am very fortunate to have a great support system both at
home and work. Thank you to my clients, family, friends, and
everyone that has expressed concern.
I had the fortunate situation to
pass two great milestones last week. For those following my blog, I
have mentioned my bike crash and the related results. Last week I
was able to transition from a wheelchair to crutches. This has made
life much more simple. And the other milestone was my 15th
anniversary with August Mack Environmental! It was a great
week!

Over 40 years have passed since
the establishment of the US EPA. A lot of positive things have
resulted from the establishment of this organization. And a lot of
frustrations have also happened along the way. Take a look back at
one of the first news releases:
