Lead-based Paint

Much like other non-scope considerations, lead-based paint will likely be addressed during Phase 1 Environmental Assessments.

The federal government banned the use of lead in paint in 1978; however in older structures these paints may still be present.  Chipped, peeling or cracking lead-based paint or paint dust can be hazardous and needs immediate attention.

A couple of different sampling methods can be employed to identify lead-based paint including direct sampling and laboratory analysis or X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis.

In April of this year, under the Toxic Substances Control Act, a new rule will be enacted that will impact contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paints in residential buildings, child care facilities and schools built before 1978. Contractors will now need to be certified and must follow specific work practices. This webinar will discuss the new rule and how it will impact contractors.  For more information on this topic check out our webinar on March 30, 2010 at 10am EST at www.augustmack.com/Webinars/Index.html
