Established in 1989, the Ohio Petroleum Underground Storage Tank Release Compensation Board (PUSTRCB) was created to help ease the financial burdens often associated with the costs incurred when addressing releases associated with registered underground storage tanks (USTs). The Petroleum Financial Assurance Fund, commonly referred to as “the fund,” is a source of money derived from mandatory per-tank fees. This money is available to eligible underground storage tank owners to reimburse petroleum release clean up costs. This “fund” of money has helped reduce some of the financial risk associated with owning underground storage tanks, however, it is important to realize there is a mandatory pre-approval process that most be followed when considering cleanup options.
