Why Should I Hire a Consultant to Conduct an Audit?

Wednesday, October 19, 2011 by Marketing Department
Hiring an environmental compliance consultant will add credibility to your result in the eyes of your external stakeholders. These individuals or firms usually have an already established relationship with the environmental governing bodies and are knowledgeable in how to submit reports correctly.

If you suspect a violation may be present or you become aware that a facility should have been complying with a law but has not, a consultant can come in and offer environmental compliance solutions.

Shout Out!

Monday, September 26, 2011 by Cassie Anderson
One of my recent posts discussed the varieties of social media marketing.  Through all of my reading, research, tweeting and blogging, a reoccuring theme keeps coming up: If you aren't using social media marketing to promote yourself and others, you're doing it wrong!

So with that in mind, I need to give a BIG public THANK YOU to one of the awesome senior managers at my office, Brian Wilson.  I came down with a heinous cold the day before I was to give a webinar on "Addressing Vapor Intrusion...

Environmental Compliance Consultant Intern Learns First Hand About Air Permitting

Wednesday, August 17, 2011 by August Mack Employees

During my internship, I shadowed one of the senior managers and a project manager on a Title V permit renewal. We had a two-hour meeting with our client to review potential changes in the operation of the plant potentially resulting in modifications in the existing air permit. After the meeting, we toured the facility and our client briefed me on the processes and operations of the plant. It was an awesome experience for me to be able to sit in for the day and learn from the best.

Environmental Compliance Service Intern Helps Manage Compliance Assistance Program

Monday, August 15, 2011 by August Mack Employees
Last week I have been updating the compliance assistance program (eCAP®) website for our clients. The website maintains the client’s documents for each module they have in their eCAP® program. I cleaned up individual client webpages by stacking old documents and organizing the newer documents. This way our clients have easy access to their compliance documents without having to mess with organizing them on their own.

Bridget is an intern from Indiana University at August Mack for the summer. She...

Utilizing Limited Compliance Audits in Real Estate Transactions

Friday, August 12, 2011 by Marketing Department

When a property is undergoing a transaction (e.g., sale, refinance, foreclosure), a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) is conducted to identify any potential liabilities associated with past or present use of the property. The industry standard for performing Phase I ESAs is based on the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard E 1527, which specifies industry-accepted minimumrequirements for evaluating the environmental condition of a property. The Phase I ESA is...

August Mack's Environmental Compliance Intern Point of View

Wednesday, August 10, 2011 by August Mack Employees
Earlier in the summer I shadowed a project manager at one of August Mack’s clients for their monthly storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) and spill prevention control and countermeasure (SPCC) inspections. The facility we were inspecting is a job shop iron foundry that produces many different types of castings. I was able to walk through the facility during production hours and follow the project manager as she went through the routine inspection. This was a great opportunity for me to...

Moisture = Mold

Friday, July 8, 2011 by Cassie Anderson
Here in Indiana, we've been getting dumped on!  In June, Indianapolis got 5.76 inches of rain, 11 days with thunderstorms, 5 days with heavy rain, and 17 days with light rain according to the National Weather Service. Crazy, right?!  Since most all of my friends know that I used to work as a Field Scientist for August Mack and I'm right in the age range of the first-time homebuyer, I seem to get flooded with mold questions during this time of year or after heavy rain events.  So I have found a...

Mississippi River Flood Raises Threat of Mold

Tuesday, May 31, 2011 by Cassie Anderson
The rain seemed like it would be endless last week in Indiana, but it's nothing compared to the recent Mississippi River floods.  The flood devastated hundreds of homes and thousands of acres of farmland. As residents slowly make their way back to their property to assess and rebuild their lives, yet another consideration that may be looming is mold.  The Center for Disease Control offers Mold Presentation Strategies following hurricanes and major flood events:  www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/...
